Frau Ghada El Bez: Cyber-Physical Security of the Network Communication in Electrical Substations based on IEC 61850

Abstract: Modern critical infrastructures such as Smart Grids rely heavily on Information and Communication Technology (ICT) systems to monitor operations and states within large-scale facilities. With the integration of ICT, the number and types of attacks targeting the Cyber-Physical Security of modern energy systems have been increasing drastically in recent times. This talk focuses on the network communication security in electrical substations based on IEC 61850. An analysis of the available security recommendations as well as a simulation of different cyber-attacks against the communication network will be presented.
