Abschlussarbeiten und Wissenschaftliche Hilfskräfte

We are always looking for eager and enthusiastic students who want to work as research assistants in our group or write a thesis.

We are looking for motivated students of computer science, physics, mathematics, economics or related disciplines who are interested in energy systems, economics, data processing and numerical optimization. Basic knowledge of these topics is desirable, as well as experience with object-oriented programming. We mainly work with Python.

If you are interested, please send an e-mail with your CV and current grades to fabian neumannLwc0∂kit edu, describing your thematic interests in more detail. We will then try to design a suitable project for you.

Possible topics include:

  • Comparison of open source tools for the generation of time series of spatial production of renewable electricity
  • Comparison of several publicly available European transmission system data sets
  • Graph-theoretical topics related to network flows and storage in energy system models
  • Meteorology and energy system models - Extreme weather events
  • Offshore wind generation in the North Sea - grid expansion and floating turbines
  • Wave energy converters in low-emission energy system models
  • Application of Dynamic Line Rating (DLR) in electricity network models
  • Support in the development of the Python packages PyPSA, PyPSA-Eur, PyPSA-Eur-Sec, atlite, vresutils (https://github.com/PyPSA)
