From March 23–25, the 4th International Workshop on “Open Source Modeling and Simulation of Energy Systems” (OSMSES 2026) at KIT in Karlsruhe featured three days of intensive discussions, innovative approaches, and exciting insights into the future of energy systems. “OSMSES 2026” once again demonstrated how crucial open-source models and simulations are for designing sustainable and complex energy systems.

A total of 66 international experts gathered to discuss the latest developments in the field of open modeling and simulation of energy systems through 33 papers, 5 tutorials, and 2 keynote sessions (TransnetBW, Open Energy Transition).

The exchange between academia, industry, and practitioners was inspiring and once again made it clear: The future of energy systems is shaped by collaboration, transparency, and open technologies.
