  • Under the leadership of the IAI, KIT will host the 4th International Workshop on “Open Source Modeling and Simulation of Energy Systems” (OSMSES 2026) in March 2026.

The event will take place from March 23 to 25, 2026, at the KIT Campus South (Senate Hall) in Karlsruhe and will serve as a central exchange platform for experts from science and industry. Given the increasing complexity of integrated energy systems—which include electricity, gas, and heating networks, as well as decentralized components—the importance of transparent, open simulation tools and models is growing. OSMSES 2026 offers the ideal opportunity to present scientific contributions in the open-source field across a broad range of topics and share them with the scientific community: from simulation techniques (e.g., real-time and co-simulation, electromagnetic analyses) to advanced modeling (data-driven AI/ML approaches, gas and heat network modeling) to the development of new open-source frameworks and architectures.

The workshop is organized by KIT-IAI under the direction of Prof. Dr. Veit Hagenmeyer in close cooperation with Forschungszentrum Jülich (FZJ) and the Austrian Institute of Technology (AIT). Employees and researchers at IAI and KIT are invited to present their current work and findings at OSMSES 2026. The deadline for submitting research papers is December 19, 2025. All detailed information on the call for papers and the submission guidelines are available on the official workshop website at https://www.osmses2026.kit.edu.

We look forward to a successful event and numerous contributions.
