  • Researchers at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), together with partners from science and industry, have developed the digital platform NaiS (Sustainable intelligent refurbishment), which significantly simplifies the planning of energy-efficient refurbishments. With the help of artificial intelligence, NaiS analyses complex building data in just a few minutes and provides a sound basis for decisions on modernization measures.

The platform automatically links information from images, floor plans, text documents and statistical data. AI fills in missing information, creates semantically processed building models and visualizes results in 3D. The target is to make refurbishment decisions faster, more transparent and data-based.

The project results will be presented at the “NaiS Summit” on June 11, 2026. NaiS has been running since May 2023 and was funded with 4.1 million euros by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space. The consortium includes the KIT institutions TMB, Institute for Automation and Applied Informatics (IAI) and the Karlsruhe Service Research Institute. The external partners include Ed. Züblin AG, Concular GmbH, CAALA GmbH and the German Sustainable Building Council.
