  • The Institute for Automation and applied Informatics (IAI) of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) organized their RIS3 Roundtable discussion workshop focussing on the aspect of knowledge transfer between Research organisations and Industry, on the 26th of January 2022. The main themes of the workshop were centered around the advanced manufacturing topics of “Additive Manufacturing/3D Printing” and “Industry 4.0” as part of the “Technology and Innovation (TIN) network – Intelligent Production Systems”, that has been setup by KIT within the framework of the CE Interreg project CEUP 2030. The workshop started with an introduction into the project CEUP 2030 and its achievements followed by a presentation of the Interreg Upper rhine project KTUR – Knowledge Transfer Upper Rhine. The KTUR project is coordinated by KIT and working towards setting up a long-term cross-border network of knowledge and technology transfer offices from the participating 12 universities in the Upper Rhine region. Presentations from the KIT Innovation and Relations Management (IRM) department gave an overview on the activities and services offered by the central unit offered to external users promoting the effective transfer of high technology to Industry.

The presentations were followed by an intense panel discussion amongst the lively panel consisting of leaders from industry, policy makers and academia alike. Current deficiencies in the existing systems and methods to overcome them were highlighted. The need for joint research and development efforts were also stressed with several interesting connections being made during the event itself for future collaboration. The event which took place locally will be followed up within CEUP2030 in the form of a transnational RIS3 Roundtable event.
