A promising start for the future-oriented VIRTUAL MUSEUM project: At the joint kick-off meeting on 14 November 2025 at KIT, all project partners – the Institute for Photon Science and Synchrotron Radiation (IPS), the State Museum of Natural History Karlsruhe and the Stuttgart State Museum of Natural History – met to lay the foundation for a new era of museum digitization. Using state-of-the-art robotics, AI-supported image control and an immersive virtual reality environment, a platform is being created that digitally captures, explores and brings to life fossil and modern-day organisms. The project not only strengthens the German digitization strategy, but also paves the way for a Europe-wide initiative for the digital future of natural history museums.
