Dr. Tom Brown (IAI) has been awarded a Young Investigator Network Grant

of EUR 8,000 together with Dr. Christian Grams of the Institute for

Meteorology and Climate Research (IMK) to investigate the effect of

"dark wind lulls" on the energy system. During these lulls, both wind

and solar generation can remain low for multiple days. The aim of the

project is to combine insights from meteorology and energy informatics

to understand how best to deal with such situations in scenarios for

Germany with high shares of wind and solar energy, for example with

better inter-connectors with neighbouring countries or with seasonal

storage.
